Excellent - Economist Michael Hudson has often pointed out that GDP to varying degrees is a fiction as it contains non-productive earnings such as rent seeking. Ireland is one example if the distortion caused by foreign Corps which is added to GDP, despite the cash ending up in the state from where the Corp originates - Romania is another revealed by Trump boasting that the US extracted 11.5 billion from there a few years back. To varying degrees prevalent all over the West as part of that Neoliberal rule of the free movement of capital.

Interesting on the oil issue - I follow a guy named Dr. Tim Morgan who talks of many things including the energy cost of gaining energy & to my mind the fools in the UK are now after failing to secure Russian resources are like a gambler who thought it was his lucky day, only to end up with a few chips left to desperately throw on the table.
